Preferred Makeup Artists: Meet Rosemarie Bernardo
I believe that every detail matters when it comes to capturing the perfect portrait. That's why I’m thrilled to introduce you to Rosemarie Bernardo, one of the talented makeup artists who helps bring my visions to life. Rosemarie was the first makeup artist I collaborated with in New York City, a gem of a referral from a fellow photographer friend here.
What a complete pleasure it was having Rosemarie in front of my lens for a short & sweet session.
Get to Know Rosemarie
Rosemarie Bernardo’s journey into makeup artistry is as inspiring as her work. After an 18-year career in the garment industry as a pattern maker, she found herself at a crossroads when her company in San Francisco closed. Transitioning into the photo industry, she explored various roles including wardrobe stylist, on-set seamstress, prop stylist, and finally, makeup and hair artist. It was the art of makeup, akin to painting, that captured her heart, leading her to pursue it exclusively.
“I never imagined I would make a living as a makeup artist, or even knew that the career existed. I absolutely love what I do. I have met so many wonderful people, traveled to different places, learned valuable lessons, and look forward to what is ahead.”
Passion and Inspiration
Rosemarie’s love for painting, theater, and people fueled her transition into makeup artistry. Her makeup style focuses on enhancing the individual’s natural beauty and skin, making her an ideal fit for portrait photography. She stays updated on the latest trends and techniques through a blend of intuition and inspiration from magazines like Vogue, Bazaar, Elle, Allure, and GQ.

The right makeup artist changes everything. So does the right photographer.
"I've been lucky enough to shoot with Stacie before, and her images always blow me away and make me see myself in a new light. This was especially true during my recent photoshoot at her studio in NYC.
I felt like a professional model at my NYC photoshoot! We had so much fun, and Stacie's contagious excitement made me feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. I was worried I would just look like a middle-aged woman who had been feeling old and invisible, but when I saw the photos, I was blown away! These were photos of a strong, confident, beautiful woman. Stacie captured me so authentically and truly brought out the best of me. It was so hard to pick my favorites; they were all incredibly good!”
