Overview:

This quick comp was a self-initiated design demonstration created to attract authors seeking professional portrait photography and compelling book cover design. The concept aimed to showcase how photography can be integrated across the entire book design, from the cover to the interior flaps, to create a cohesive and visually impactful narrative.

Design Elements & Concepts:

  • Title & Theme Development: I conceived the book title, "Skin Deep, Soul Wide," and developed a theme that explored themes of inner beauty and self-discovery.

  • Photography: I created the book's thematic focus based on the portrait photography I captured of the model.

  • Cover Design: I designed the book cover, incorporating the portrait photography, selecting typography, and establishing a color palette that conveyed the book's tone and genre.

  • Back Cover & Flap Design: I extended the design concept to the back cover and interior flaps, demonstrating how photography and design elements can be used to create a unified visual experience.

  • Typography & Color Theory: Careful consideration was given to typography and color theory to enhance readability, create visual hierarchy, and evoke the desired mood and emotion.

Design Considerations:

  • Target Audience: The design was tailored to appeal to authors in specific genres (e.g., literary fiction, women's fiction, self-help).

  • Genre Conventions: I considered genre conventions while also aiming to create a unique and eye-catching design.

  • Visual Cohesion: The design elements were carefully integrated to create a cohesive and visually engaging presentation.

  • Emotional Connection: The design aimed to evoke an emotional response and create a sense of intrigue for potential readers.
