Behind the scenes: Welcome To New York City

In the heart of New York City, amidst the bustling streets and towering skyscrapers, I had the privilege of experiencing a truly remarkable photo session recently that felt like a warm embrace from the city itself. This extraordinary shoot brought together two absolute icons of the industry: the stunning supermodel Julie Anderson who’s numerous magazine covers and images from the past are pretty much embedded in my brain at this point and the incredibly talented makeup artist Margret Avery that has worked with all the greats in NYC, from models to actors and singers to First Ladies. Pinch me. Right?

As we stepped into the beautiful midtown Manhattan photography studio, the energy was palpable, we were filled with excitement for the creative journey ahead. Behind the scenes, we laid out clothing, jewelry and makeup to prepare Julie to be in front of the camera. While Margret was doing Julie’s makeup, I prepared my equipment to be ready for action. And then set the stage with the seamless paper backdrop, a stool, a posing table and a fan.

Julie Anderson, with her grace and professionalism, stepped into the spotlight, embodying elegance and poise with every movement. Her creativity seemed boundless as she effortlessly transformed into different characters — expressions, poses, hand movements — each more captivating than the last. Behind the lens, I was in absolute awe watching her work, as she brought our vision to life, infusing each frame with her unique beauty and charisma.

Working alongside Julie was Margret Avery, also a master of her craft whose talent knew no bounds. With each brushstroke, she enhanced Julie's natural beauty, elevating the entire experience to new heights. Her attention to detail was impeccable, ensuring that every aspect of the makeup was flawless, from the subtle contouring to the bold lip colors. Behind the scenes, Margret's expertise shone through as she meticulously perfected each look by tending to the small details I couldn’t as easily see from behind the camera, such as stray hairs around Julie’s face flyaway hairs, twits in wardrobe, etc. She made my job so much easier and I am incredibly grateful.

As the day unfolded, the synergy between all of us was undeniable. Together, we created magic that day. Complete magic. There was a sense of fulfillment, a recognition of the creative journey we had embarked upon together. Though the final images and videos are yet to come, the memories we created behind the scenes will forever hold a special place in my heart. I am so lucky to have been able to work with these two incredible and talented souls!

In the end, this photo session was more than just a collaboration—it was a celebration of art, creativity, and camaraderie. Behind the scenes, we enjoyed the power of collaboration, the beauty of shared vision, and the joy of bringing dreams to life. And as we all await the unveiling of the final images, we are reminded once again of the magic that happens when talent, passion, and creativity come together in the heart of New York City. This is what New York is all about afterall, isn’t it? I’m swooning!

The dream team. We made magic together on this day! Makeup artist Margret Avery, photographer Stacie Frazier and model Julie Anderson in midtown Manhattan photography studio.
